Client Background:
The Rogue Welsh Cake Company was born in 2020. Thanks to the support and enthusiasm of our loyal fanbase, that begins locally at our markets and stretches as far as Australia (potentially the first time in history a welsh cake has flown that far!) We have been able to experiment with many different recipes and grow our family business from a small stall at a pop up farmers market, to a premises in Europe’s biggest regeneration market, in Newport’s City centre. 

Project Brief:
The Rogue Welsh Cake Co needed two things: 1. A social first video promoting who they are and what makes them special. 2. Product images for a new opportunity to sell their products on a B2B platform. The team are really busy making and distributing welsh cakes, so needed someone to come in at the right time and capture the essence of the brand and to capture amazing images that help them sell their products.

Creative Approach:


1. A social first video promoting who they are and what makes them special.
The owner of The Rogue Welsh Cake Co, Joe, is a big character and so the promo video was designed around brining out his personality and his passion for Welsh cakes, having a little bit of fun with him and showcasing the products and services that the company offer. In order to achieve this we:

  • Worked with Joe to develop a rough outline of the video, ensuring that all the key messages that. he wanted to convey were included and he was comfortable with how to deliver it all.
  • We then broke the video down into several smaller sections in order to make it easier for Joe to deliver, rather than trying to remember everything and deliver it in one.
  • We then let Joe go with the flow and ad lib whatever came to mind so that the video felt authentic, relaxed and reflected Joe and the brand
  • We then added a bit of extra character into the video through choosing certain B roll shots to capture and where to include them into the video.
  • We then delivered a social first, portrait video with subtitles for Joe to use across various social media platforms.


2. Product images for a new opportunity to sell their products on a B2B platform.
In order to maximise a new exciting opportunity to be included on a B2B platform the business required new, high quality still images of products. In order to achieve this we:

  • Worked with Joe to understand what the key selling points were of the products and how the platform would be used by potential customers.
  • Then using a high quality stills camera, we shot product images of each recipe of Welsh cake on offer. We captured several Welsh cakes together in order to create more shape and more interesting imagery, as well as breaking open the Welsh cakes and capturing shots of the inside looking all delicious, crumbly and showcasing the recipes.
  • We delivered over 100 edited and usable images that the company can use across their website and social media platforms.

Strategic Impact:

  • The Rogue Welsh Cake Co have already seen additional sales and opportunities come in thanks to the video content.
  • They now have a bank of high quality images that really sell the product and can be used across various platforms to reach new and existing customers.
