Client Background
Founded by Alun Wyn Jones, a modern-day Welsh icon, Mimosa Rwm Espiritu is more than just a drink—it’s a tribute to history, a celebration of heritage, and a testament to the connections that bind us across time. Just as the Mimosa ship carried its passengers to a new life, Mimosa Rwm Espiritu carries the rich flavours of the Caribbean and the warmth of Welsh tradition into every glass. The significant number 158, reflects the years between the voyage (1865) and the launch of Mimosa Rwm (2023) it also is coincidentally the number of test caps Alun Wyn Jones ended his international career on. This resonates with the attention to detail and the precise blending of flavours in every batch of this exceptional rum liqueur.
THE MIMOSA: In 1865, a ship named Mimosa set sail from Liverpool, carrying the dreams of brave Welsh settlers bound for the remote and rugged lands of Patagonia, Argentina. These pioneers, driven by a desire to preserve their culture and language, embarked on a journey that would forever link Wales with the distant shores of Argentina. Mimosa, the ship that bore them across the Atlantic, became a symbol of courage, resilience, and the indomitable Welsh spirit. www.mimosarw.co.uk
Project Brief:
Alun Wyn wanted to continue a tradition of creating spoof videos of Christmas movies as promos for Mimosa at Christmas, and in 2025 he wanted to create a version of Elf… featuring another rugby legend… Jiffy.
Creative Approach:
- We developed a very basic storyline with AWJ – that saw him as Buddy the Elf getting a grotto ready for Christmas, whilst Jiffy – as Pappa Elf – half watched on. And then, Al surprises Jiffy with a bottle of Mimosa as a gift. We also ensured we spoofed some of the key elements of the film – including eating a bowl of sweets covered in Mimosa rum!
- With the costumes easy to order online – the trickiest element would have been building or using a Christmas grotto. We engaged Pugh’s Garden Centre in Cardiff – who are stockists of Mimosa rum – and they were only too happy to accommodate us. We shot for around an hour after closing at the start of the Christmas season – meaning very little disruption for them.
- The final video is a great example of how a brand can tap into cultural or seasonal activity and not take itself too seriously in order to reach new customers with fun content.
